Early Harvest Begins for Amalgamated Sugar

September 3 marked the first day of early sugarbeet harvest for Amalgamated Sugar growers in Southern Idaho. Sugarbeet growers in the Magic Valley will be supplying the Mini-Cassia and Twin Falls Factories as they work through start up procedures. Twin Falls and Mini-Cassia began slicing sugarbeets on September 5.

“Early harvest is an ideal time to train new harvest employees, run and adjust our pilers, commit ourselves anew to safety procedures and policies, and provides Growers the opportunity to adjust and set their harvest equipment,” said Brodie Griffin, Mini-Cassia District Agricultural Manager. “Plus, who doesn’t love the smell of freshly topped sugarbeets and dirt in September!?”

Early harvest will begin on September 20 in La Grande, OR. The Nyssa/Nampa area will begin on September 23. The Nampa Factory is scheduled to begin slicing sugarbeets on September 26.
