Feed Products

Amalgamated Sugar produces and markets a variety of wholesome animal feed products derived from sugarbeets. Our feed products consist primarily of pulp (wet and dried), molasses, CSB, and specialty products. Our feed products are sold domestically and internationally.

Our feed Products

Pressed Pulp
After the sugarbeets have been cleaned, sliced, and soaked in hot water to recover the sugar, the beet pulp remains. Beet pulp that is pressed to remove excess water and recover additional sugar is then called pressed pulp. Pressed pulp is an excellent source of digestible fiber and nutrients. Amalgamated Sugar produces about 450,000 tons of pressed pulp annually.
Dried Pulp

After the sugarbeets have been cleaned, sliced, and soaked in hot water to recover the sugar, the beet pulp remains. Beet pulp is then pressed and dried to about 10% moisture (dried pulp), leaving a very stable, nutritionally-rich, and high in digestible fiber product. Dried pulp is available as shreds or in a pelletized form. Amalgamated Sugar produces about 230,000 tons of dried pulp annually.

Beet Molasses

Beet molasses is the thick syrup remaining after the sugar crystals have been extracted from the standard liquor in the refining process. Molasses provides a great source of energy and minerals, ideal for dairy cattle. Additionally, molasses provides energy and improves milk production. Amalgamated Sugar produces about 35,000 tons of molasses annually.

CSB

CSB is molasses with additional sugar removed. CSB is a good source of sugar, amino acids, and minerals for livestock. Amalgamated Sugar produces about 110,000 tons of CSB annually.

Betaine

Betaine (trimethylglycine) is an osmoregulator and methyl donor and is recovered from beet molasses using proprietary methods. Betaine is used as an animal feed ingredient for poultry, swine and aquaculture. It is available in either a liquid or crystalline form and is sold domestically and internationally. Amalgamated Sugar produces about 10,000 tons of liquid betaine and 5,000 tons of crystalline betaine annually.

Tailings

Tailings refer to the leafy tops and chunks of sugarbeets that are separated prior to diffusion. Tailings are high in sugar content, providing a great boost in energy. Amalgamated Sugar produces about 190,000 tons of tailings annually.
