Fall and winter are busy seasons at Amalgamated Sugar, bringing a constant stream of activity around harvesting and processing sugarbeets. It’s a lot of work to ensure that harvest and the factory campaign run smoothly.
During this busy time, Amalgamated Sugar hires many seasonal employees to assist at sugarbeet receiving stations and with general labor at the factories. “Each year, we are bringing in about 6.9 million tons of sugarbeets into our factories in Nampa, Twin Falls, and Paul,” said Jim Brigham, Corporate Director of HR. “That is no small undertaking, so we bring on additional help.”
“Some people prefer short seasonal employment to fit their lifestyles and/or monetary savings goals. Harvest employment offers the benefit of a short season with high earnings potential,” said Martha Luna, District HR Manager at the Nampa factory. “Whether it’s to earn some extra spending money, holiday cash, earn money for a dream vacation; Seasonal employment offers excellent opportunities.”
There are two main types of seasonal positions at Amalgamated Sugar. Ag Harvest positions last approximately five weeks. Ag Harvest employees work 60 plus hours a week Monday thru Saturday and can make anywhere from $13.32 to $22.60 per hour. “Our Twin Falls scale ladies say that it feels good to be a part of such a sweet future,” said Danielle Bingham, District HR Manager at the Twin Falls factory.
Factory Campaign positions last for five to seven months with a starting pay rate of $16.93 per hour, with opportunities for advancement. Factory Campaign employees work an average of 40 hours per week, subject to mandatory and voluntary overtime.
“Ag Harvest is a great opportunity for potential employees to get a feel for the workload and hours,” said Patrick Burns, District HR Manager at the Mini-Cassia factory. “Working hard for the Harvest group leads to the potential to be brought into the Factory and work towards becoming a full-time employee. It’s a small step towards great pay, benefits, and challenging long-term career.”
When considering a seasonal position at Amalgamated Sugar, it is important to note the job requirements. Applicants must be 18 years or older with reliable transportation. Applicants must be able to lift and carry heavy items and be willing to work in hot and cold conditions. No prior experience is needed to apply.
