On January 17, 2019, members of the Local BCTGM 283G attended Union Day at the Idaho Capitol Building. The annual event provides an opportunity for Union members to meet with state legislators to discuss issues and raise awareness of Union made products and services in Idaho. “The goal is to build a positive relationship with our elected officials; for the Union and Amalgamated Sugar,” said Ron Story, President of Local BCTGM 283G. “Our meetings were great, and we always receive good feedback from the legislators.”
Nine of Amalgamated Sugar’s Union employees attended the day’s events – seven Union members from the Twin Falls facility and two from the Mini-Cassia facility.
The morning started with meetings with local legislators. In the afternoon, a variety of different Union organizations set up informational displays in the capitol rotunda. The Local BCTGM 283G display included a variety of items that use Amalgamated Sugar as one of their ingredients. “Everyone loves this sugar,” said Keith Brown, Vice President of Local BCTGM 283G. “That’s the highlight of this event.”
